Students, faculty, administrators and staff gathered as a faith community on January 31, for the Catherine McAuley Liturgy to honor the 2011-2012 recipients of the Women of Mercy award and to celebrate the annual observance of Catholic Schools Week. The Women of Mercy award was created in 2004 to recognize young women, chosen by their peers, who exemplify the qualities of mercy that Catherine McAuley established - compassion, kindness, honesty, integrity and care for the least of God’s people. meaningful because the awardees are chosen by their peers. Students vote for who they feel truly embodies the qualities of mercy. The Lauralton Hall Key Club is sponsoring a Valentine Dance for the local senior citizen community on Wednesday, February 15, from 1:30 to 3:30 pm in the Claven Auditorium. The afternoon event will feature professional dance instructors who will lead line dancing and offer free dance lessons. by Pam Boynton In a fall ceremony marked by the traditional lighting of candles, the Lauralton Hall chapter of the National Honor Society inducted 75 new members, 8 seniors and 67 juniors. "The inductees tonight are a special group, recognized for their academic prowess and attention to community service, leadership, and character," said Chris Cook, Co-Moderator of the chapter. "We are so very proud of all that these young women have accomplished. It will be our pleasure to watch as they grow and shape their world," Mrs. Cook added. Lauralton Hall’s Peer Mentors and Fairfield Prep’s Student Government co-hosted a Freshman Pizza Social at the Prep campus on January 20. The social was well attended by 65 Lauralton freshmen and even more Prep freshmen who enjoyed pizza, music and icebreakers before heading over the Fairfield Prep/West Haven basketball game. The mentors organized the event as a way to help the younger students forge new friendships with Prep students and, even more importantly, with their classmates. This highly successful, fun event was enjoyed not only by the freshmen, but also by many members of Lauralton‘s Peer Mentors and Fairfield Prep’s Student Government. Lauralton Hall’s exceptional guidance and college planning program has a new home thanks to the generosity of the Flavia Finucane Charitable Trust. The newly renovated Center for Guidance and College Planning is located on the second floor of Mercy Hall and houses four guidance offices for private one-on-one counseling. In addition the space includes a large conference room with a flat screen monitor that will be used by visiting college admissions personnel as well as for family and staff meetings. Lauralton students were out in full force on January 12 talking about their creative inspiration at the opening of an exhibit at Café Atlantique in Milford. Comprised of portrait, still-life, landscape, and abstract works created in state-of-the-art studios on campus, the show includes nineteen artworks in pencil, pen and ink, pastels, acrylic and digital design. Art teacher Judith Doherty described the opportunity for students to share their work publically as “a learning experience--a great opportunity for our young women to display their work in a public space like this.” |
