Catherine McAuley Liturgy honors Women of Mercy recipients and celebrates Catholic Schools Week

Posted on Feb 02, 2012

Students, faculty, administrators and staff gathered as a faith community on January 31, for the Catherine McAuley Liturgy to honor the 2011-2012 recipients of the Women of Mercy award and to celebrate the annual observance of Catholic Schools Week. The Women of Mercy award was created in 2004 to recognize young women, chosen by their peers, who exemplify the qualities of mercy that Catherine McAuley established - compassion, kindness, honesty, integrity and care for the least of God’s people.  meaningful because the awardees are chosen by their peers. Students vote for who they feel truly embodies the qualities of mercy. Academics are important at Lauralton, but it is gratifying to see that students are living what we teach them; that they truly are following in Catherine McAuley’s footsteps.”

The mass began with music provided by members of the Campus Ministry and Advanced Vocal Ensemble, directed by Dean Aufiero and Margy Sargent. Kiley Cappetta, ’13, presented the Call to Worship, asking her classmates to thank God for the Mercy education and to pray to Mother McAuley for guidance. Ashley Flynn, ’13, representing the club, Voices of Justice, reminded us of our constant obligation to feed the poor.

The Liturgy concluded with Sister Dot and Sister Janice presenting the Women of Mercy Awards. Congratulations to the 2011-2012 Lauralton Hall Women of Mercy:

Micaela Kwochka, ’12
Emilia Tanu, ’13
Maureen Connolly, ’14

Yvonne Nguyen, ’15

Campus Minister Christine Ring remarked “The Women of Mercy award is especially meaningful because the awardees are chosen by their peers. Students vote for who they feel truly embodies the qualities of mercy. Academics are important at Lauralton, but it is gratifying to see that students are living what we teach them; that they truly are following in Catherine McAuley’s footsteps.”
